The Intersection of AR with AI: What Does it Look Like?

Augmented Reality stands to be one of the most exciting technologies on the horizon. Imagining the possibilities of virtual objects seamlessly making there way around the real world is inspiring. There is however something missing from most AR applications that are out there right now, and that’s Artificial Intelligence.

Most AR apps are basic use-cases, allowing for the placement of simple objects into the world. There are some “basic” AR apps that are extremely useful, like the AR furniture testing tools, or the sneaker testing tools, where you can try out new furniture in your house in AR or try on new sneakers. These are all great tools, but they provide the same basic functionality of placing virtual objects into the world. Games like Minecraft Earth and Pokemon Go have tried their hand at integrating augmented reality. Each with there own style of integration were able to captivate users in a new kind of way that’s never quite been seen before. But they still aren’t AR AI apps.

Most tech inclined people know about the Microsoft Hololens. It’s a device that “displaces space and time” to create a mixed reality.
